What's New at FCPC
Building for the Future
During June, the Church Board/Session met with two Architectural firms to get ideas on a large renovation project for the church. The plan is to reclaim as usable space the 4,000 square feet of space upstairs in the Education Wing. Currently we only have two classes which meet upstairs. The plan is for an elevator to be installed, the building brought up to code and a massive facelift reorganizing the available space into larger more functional classrooms. When completed, all Adult classes will meet upstairs along with some youth classes. The option of movable walls is being considered to allow two or three of those rooms to be joined together when needed. The upstairs will also be outfitted with new handicapped accessible restrooms.
Downstairs the Fellowship Hall will be enlarged and the kitchen will be modernized and brought up to commercial standards with more space and new appliances. New energy efficient heat and air units will be installed and energy efficient windows will bring in more sunshine. These improvements will not only increase the flexibility and functionality of our space, it will allow us to better serve our mission and ministry. The nursery will be expanded and be equipped with its own rest room facility for the children.
One firm will be chosen to do the design work. The project will be financed with money we have from the sale of our other buildings and supplemented with a fund raising plan. One of our main goals is to avoid incurring any debt in the process. This is the first of three phases.
On the drawing board for the future are two other phases. We want to update our gym and youth building with fresh paint, ceiling tiles, and better windows. We also want to increase the energy efficiency in that building. Again, everything will be geared toward functionality and mission. Another phase would be to connect our two buildings and add a few rooms in between. That would mean changing the covered entrance on the north and putting the porte-cochere in another place.
Needless to say we are planning for growth here at FCPC. Our community dinners are going well, bringing in 90 to 100 people each week. When construction begins we will do it in such a way that our ministries, such as the community dinners will not be interrupted.
